Research Project Assignment
The purpose of this assignment is to give students the opportunity to engage in primary and secondary research related to teaching comics or the graphic novel in the secondary schools or in college.
Students will compose a research project of 5-8 pages plus a work cited page including at least 4 sources. One of these 4 sources must be a primary resource—that is, an interview (email or in person) with an English teacher (not to include Dr. Musgrove or another member of this class) on the topic of teaching comics or graphic novels.
The research process will begin with a question about teaching comics or the graphic novel. This research question should be a question for which the student does not already have a satisfactory answer and a question the student believes would be of interest to other teachers. This research question must be approved by Dr. Musgrove.
The basic structure for this research project would include
1. An introduction to, description of personal interest in, explanation of, and justification for the research question
2. How sources 1, 2, 3, and 4 respond to the research question
3. What the student has learned from the sources investigated about teaching comics or the graphic novel and about the research question
